I joined Toastmasters in February 2014, after being a guest for a few months. The main reason I joined as a member was that I wanted to improve my time management skills; I also wanted to meet more people who wanted to learn more about leadership and communication, just like me.
There are many things I enjoy about Toastmasters. If I were to chose the 3 things I enjoy the most, they would be the energy of the meetings, the well-structured and respected agenda, and the diversity of the members (related to their jobs).
As an ex-pat in the UK and later in France, Toastmasters allowed me to meet new people and to better integrate with the community that I was part of. In my hometown, Brașov, Toastmasters allowed me to successfully develop my creativity and support a growing community.
If you want to become a better speaker to boost your career, Toastmasters is the right place for you. We don’t build strong people, we build people with strong leadership and communication skills. In August 2022, I joined Brașov Toastmasters because I wanted to overcome my fear of public speaking, especially when speaking off the cuff in front of people whom I perceived as experienced or highly intelligent. I also wanted to improve my professional English and be part of a community of people who care about personal development and continuous learning.
From the very first meetings, I felt welcomed and encouraged. The atmosphere was both structured and supportive, and the members came from such diverse backgrounds that I immediately knew this was a place where I could grow.
Over time, Toastmasters gave me more than I expected. I developed essential skills like time management, strategic planning, and interpersonal communication, all of which I’ve used in both personal and professional situations. I also formed meaningful friendships that extend far beyond our club meetings. I’ve participated in inspiring events, like public speaking contests and conferences, and always felt part of a trusted, open-minded team.

I wanted to meet new people, and I was eager to develop my ability to speak out in public. So in March 2017, I decided it was time to take action. A dear friend of mine had spoken to me about Toastmasters, and she seemed very passionate about it, so I decided to join a meeting of the Brasov Toastmasters Club.
First impressions go a long way, and the people of this club made a great impression on me! Warm, caring, and eager to learn and teach, this felt like the right place. I signed up to become a member that same evening.
Eight years later, I can confirm it delivered on what I was looking for. I’ve met many interesting people and developed new friendships. I am much better at expressing myself and speaking from my heart, not just my head. I also learned a great deal more – like how to give feedback in a way that truly helps the receiver. I also got to know myself better through the process of writing and delivering speeches about topics that are dear to me and events throughout my life.
