Let’s Go to Chişinău!

Toastmasters members from Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine will soon be taking part in the first International Conference of 2013. In April, two clubs from Chişinău, Top Toastmasters Club and English Speaking Club, are organizing their first big event. Even though they claim to be young clubs with little experience, their initiative to organize an international contest is appreciated and should be marked in red on your calendar. A rough draft of the event agenda looks like this: 4 workshops conducted by people from the 3 countries involved

Take a Role in the TM Meetings!

Being a TM member is challenging, especially when you take a leadership role or you are a speaker. Even if you are selected for an impromptu speech at Table Topics, it can be stressful. Since I became a member, I have purposefully always tried to be a part of the meeting. I have carefully chosen my roles from the CL/CC manual. This is how I have learnt the most and developed my skills. The results are coming now without thinking, and they are usually sweet! Moreover, the TM experience has made me think about how I can improve

First Impression – Miruna Szilvasy

Becoming a Toastmasters member was the best thing I did in December 2012. I joined because I love to speak, listen, and feel the English language. Five years ago, I lived in the UK for one year. Since then, I’ve missed speaking and thinking directly in English, and now I have the chance. I’ve also met some great people at the Toastmasters’ meetings. Please meet me on: linkedin.com/in/mirunas! by Miruna SZILVASY

First Impression – Ruxandra Oprica

I’ve known about Toastmasters ever since it started in Brasov in 2010. I heard that the meetings were held at the Aro Palace Hotel and thought it must be one of those exclusive clubs – definitely of no use to me! A few months ago I met Roxi Cârceag at a public event and had the chance to ask her  some straight forward questions. I learned that Toastmasters is focused on personal development, especially on public speaking and leadership skills. I thought, “Hmmm, this could help me with the work I’m

First Impression – Ana Todica

Ever since my first visit to a Toastmasters meeting, I was impressed by how friendly everyone was. One member even took the time to show me the TM manual and walked me through what it means to be a member, which made things a lot easier for me once I joined the club. TM members don’t wait around for you to ask them questions. Instead, they will come up to you and ask if you need any help. They will

A Toastmasters’ Christmas

From the start of the December 18 meeting, it was clear that everyone was jolly. This wasn’t because jolly was the word of the day, but because the spirit of Christmas had already touched everyone in some way. The Sergeant at Arms wore a Santa hat and was spreading the spirit of Christmas everywhere around him. As the members gathered, the number of presents grew. Everyone was wondering what was in the beautifully colored bags and nicely wrapped boxes. Cristi

Evaluating the Professionals at Bucharest Business Days

Every new Toastmasters event I take part in opens doors for me. Every step I take with Toastmasters is a step forward. After participating in the July Cluj Business Days, I was asked to participate in the December Bucharest Business Days as an evaluator for all the great speakers there. It was the most important business event of the year, and I got to be an active part of it! How amazing is that?! Anca Gânscă, Cristian Mușa, and I

Evaluating the Professionals at Bucharest Business Days

Bucharest Business Days in December was a big event: 1,063 participants, 174 partners, and 107 speakers. Even though there were well-known names on the attendance list, members from Toastmasters clubs around the country were invited to evaluate the speakers. Why? Because even professionals need feedback, and they want to improve. It’s easy to think that great speakers and trainers already know everything. They don’t, and they aren’t perfect…yet. They want to get there, so we helped them. Sixteen Toastmasters’ members

Fall Conference in Bucharest

In November, I participated in the Break the Bubble, Lead the Way, and Shape Our Communication Conference organized by the Bucharest TM Club. Four members from our club drove down for an action-packed weekend. We met TM members from Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timșoara, Iași, and Chișinău in the Republic of Moldova. Everyone was open and ready to connect with the other participants. When going to this type of event, it’s natural to have expectations of hearing great things, to hope you’ll

Ice Breaking Experience – Ioana STAICU

The ice breaker experience is something you cannot easily forget. It was quite different than what I was expecting. First of all, I thought that speaking about myself would be easy, but I discovered that it was a real challenge to sum it up in six minutes. Secondly, I thought I knew the rules regarding the time, but the moment I stepped in front of the audience, I forgot everything, including my speech! At a certain point, I saw the
