2012 in Review

An amazing year is about to end! Looking back on this prodigious 2012, I can see leaders breaking through and showing the way, speakers improving, friendships rising and growing, social events, professional meetings, business attitudes, personal growth, and entertaining get-togethers. I can see them all, and I can foresee even more to come! Let me remind you how amazing this year was to us, Brasov Toastmasters: We organized: 2 Speech Contests, 2 Table Topics Contests, and 2 Evaluation Contests within

Ice Breaking Experience – Mihaela DUDITA

We give speeches every day without being aware of it. Of course, it is easier when you use your native language. However, delivering a prepared speech in English wasn’t that difficult for me. When I gave my ice breaker speech, my biggest challenge was to select and organize the most relevant information while staying within the time limit. It was not my first time to speak in front of a group, but it was the first time in front of

Puppet Power

On our way back from the Bucharest conference in November, we stopped for some shopping at Ikea. While looking for practical items, we spotted a big pile of puppets, and each of us picked one up. It was love at first sight! I chose the pink pig thinking of Roxi’s contest speech titled Think PIG. Angi selected the lamb, Patricia decided on the sweet monkey, and we chose a chicken for Roxi. We took a picture to post on Facebook

Writing my first prepared speech…

…shouldn’t be too difficult, I thought. What else do I know better than myself? I began by putting down everything I had done in chronological order and the things that I had learned while doing them. I rewrote it again focusing on the things that really made a difference in my life. It was better. I rewrote it a third time. It was even better. Finally I read it out loud and looked at the time. Sixteen minutes! I was

Rub That Lamp Already!

you know where are you going? Have you found your path in life yet? Have you reached the gate you want to break down because it hides the way to your dream, or are you still knocking on walls hoping to turn them into doors? Fellow Toastmasters, dear friends, the fact that you might have answered „no” to all the questions above is too little of a reason to stay still and wait. Chance will not ever tap you on

How is it to break the ice?

Before answering that question, we have to understand when this actually occurs. For some, it takes a few minutes until the pressure wears off. Others manage to break the ice only after the speech is finished. For me, however, the ice broke the moment I stood in front of the audience. Breaking the ice is one of the most unique feelings you’ll experience in TM! It is one small step in a long journey. I was enthusiastic about delivering my

Visitor’s viewpoint – Ovidiu TODORAN

Ovidiu TODORAN, Real Toastmasters, Seattle, WA I was eager to see a Romanian Toastmaster club and was very happy when my email inquiry was met with open arms. I was warmly welcomed and felt as if I were with friends from the moment I arrived. I enjoyed the whole meeting and was glad to see that everything was well prepared and all participants did their best to fulfill all the roles. I was pleasantly surprised by the opening of the

Visitor’s viewpoint – Andrei POPESCU

Andrei POPESCU, Toastmasters Club Bucharest It was so inspiring to witness young enthusiastic people taking charge of their growth process. More than a year after my first visit to Brasov Toastmasters, which was eye-opening in its own right, I was delighted to see such high energy and high spirits, unhampered by summer temptations. High standards for all meeting elements, proficient speakers, creative table topics, impromptu and spot-on evaluations, all made for a highly valuable meeting, well worth the time of members

Visitor’s viewpoint – Calin GILEA

Calin GILEA, President Timisoara Toastmasters What can be more exciting and challenging for a club president than visiting other Toastmasters clubs? This was my summer project, and I learned a lot. Even if we are all members in a Toastmasters club and we are used to doing things in a certain way, there is always something to learn from others. In fact, this is one of the engines of club development: learning and adapting from other clubs. After not being

Visitor’s viewpoint – Doru ROTOVEI

Doru ROTOVEI, Microsoft Early Birds, Redmond, WA On July 3, I went as a guest to the Toastmasters club in my hometown of Brasov. My own club, the Microsoft Early Birds, is in Redmond, Washington, USA. It had been three years since I’d been in Brasov, and I thought it would be a valuable experience to give a speech to a new audience. Before the meeting, I met with club president Roxy. We had an awesome interaction talking about things
