Promises to Myself for This Toastmasters New Year

I have participated in three associations and found that boards come and go, sometimes making radical changes and sometimes making no changes. Toastmasters is no exception. Even though people come and go in our club, I’ve been surprised to see that certain traditions have been kept sacred. I still find what I first loved about this club, and this rarely happens. People have different opinions and views, yet we have not been torn apart by subjectivity. It’s been almost a year since I joined Brasov Toastmasters.

5MS

Outside of our weekly Toastmasters’ meetings, the only other public speaking event in Brasov is a onceamonth event called 5MS. I went to their December meeting for the first time only knowing that they had speeches with a five minute time limit. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the speakers took this seriously, and all of them were on time. When they spoke, a PowerPoint presentation changed automatically every fifteen seconds. I think it must be challenging to make a speech like this, but evidently, not impossible. After

New Year’s Eve in Ceai et caetera

New Year’s Eve is a great way to get to know your fellow Toastmasters better. Fortyfive members and friends shared food, fun, music, and karaoke at Anca’s intimate tea house Ceai et caetera in Schei. At midnight, fire crackers and many bottles of champagne added to the beauty of the moment when one year becomes another. We walked to Piata Unirii for the grand finale, the perfect animated place for our Toastmasters’ members and friends to make secret wishes for 2014, to kiss and hug, and to rock the

Being Secret Santa

When Iulian asked me if I would be willing to be the Secret Santa this year, I immediately said Yes! Who else is better qualified in our club than I to be Santa? I am old, I have a beard that is getting pretty white, I have a nice Santa hat, and I have a big belly. A belly like mine does not happen overnight. It takes discipline and dedication, plus a lot of ice cream, chocolate, and cookies. Speaking of cookies, I brought some big

Secret Santa Meeting

The last meeting of the year in 2013 was the best Toastmasters’ meeting I ever attended. Everybody brought gifts from books to sweets and Christmas related gifts. As a relatively new member, I was enthusiastic about the gift giving and getting ready for the meeting. We invited past members which gave us the feeling of a reunion. The Christmas spirit and the end of the year made us think about what happened at Toastmasters this past year. Since everyone passed the Santa test because we were

Who Was Secret Santa?

It is becoming one of our club traditions to invite Santa to the yearend meeting. Not only did we ask members to bring a wrapped gift to exchange with others, but this year, Santa brought his own gifts for everyone there. I think he forgot the naughty list at home! But if you were at the Toastmasters meeting on December 17, then you were good enough to receive a present from Santa himself! So who was our wonderful jolly Santa this year? First Impression – Daniel Ghigea

I found Brasov Toastmasters by searching on Google. When I saw the contact details from the website, I was anxious and undecided. Should I contact them or not?! I had no idea what the atmosphere would be like. I finally sent an email and received a response from Rinda. She invited me to join the next meeting. I will never forget that Tuesday, November 26, the BIG DAY! I didn’t know what to expect. Immediately, I was well received and felt as if I were among

First Impression – Sebastian Bugeag

I learned about Toastmasters from one of my oldest and dearest friends, Iulian Dudita. Considering who made the recommendation, I decided on the spot to come to a meeting. The overflowing energy of the group and the use of the English language conquered me precisely like in the Jerry Maguire movie, and I will say the same thing: “You had me at hello.” Thank you, fellow Toastmasters, for having me! by Sebastian Bugeag

First Impression – Marian Cadar

I heard about Toastmasters during a Crestcom manager training program in 2012. One of the trainers, Dr. Jim Hennig, a specialist in human dynamics and business relationships, highly recommended we attend a Toastmasters meeting if we wanted to enhance our ability to communicate and evaluate others. After attending several meetings of the Brasov Toastmasters Club, I decided I had to get involved. Here I am outside the box, preparing speeches, improvising on table topics, and evaluating others with the objective of getting better and helping others evolve
