Officer Opening

The club needs someone to serve as Secretary through June 30, 2014. The responsibilities are on the light side compared to some of the other positions, so perhaps this might work for you. The club secretary takes minutes of our weekly meetings and the monthly board meetings. The biggest benefit of any board position is that you are involved in making decisions and policies for Brasov Toastmasters. Serving as an officer is also a prerequisite for completing the Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB) level on the Leadership Track. Interested?

An AllInclusive Offer I Couldn’t Say No To

I can recall my first Toastmasters’ experience as if it were yesterday – a shaking twenty something year old, sweaty all over with eyes scrutinizing the darkest corners of the room’s ceiling. A know nothing religious type praying in her head for the floor to open up and swallow her. What was I thinking to come here and gratuitously make a fool of myself?! A lost frightened girl, afraid to raise her head up and choose a path of her own will to follow, closed to change,

Movie Night

On Sunday, October 27, William started up our monthly movie night again after a summer break. We watched Oz, the Great and Powerful which is based on L. Frank Baum’s OZ novel and also a remake of the 1939 MGM film The Wizard of Oz. Although the film received some mixed reviews, all in all it was a box office success since it grossed $493 million in revenues worldwide. We also gave the movie both good and bad reviews. But Williams’s amazing homemade chocolate chip cookies

First Impression – Teodora Zegrean

I first heard of Toastmasters a couple of months ago when I started looking for a new way to spend my time in Brasov while also meeting new people. The big surprise came when I found out that my friend Iulian was a member. Still, I have to admit it took a lot of courage to come to the first meeting and see with my own eyes what Toastmasters means. Iulian finally convinced me it would be great to come to a meeting to see how

First Impression – Patricia Potecea

My first contact with Toastmasters was on September 17, my birthday. I had heard about the club the previous week from a former high school classmate, and I was impressed that such a club existed in Brasov. It was the best gift I could have given myself. Toastmasters is exactly what I had been searching for: a place where I could converse in English and a course in public speaking. I had wanted to learn how to communicate effectively whether with a single person or to a

First Impression – Olivia Podobea

One year ago my family moved to Brasov from Bucharest. Why we moved is a long story, but we are very happy with the change. I think everyone should do something like that at least once in a lifetime! Even though Brasov is everything I had hoped it would be, I was still looking for something to make me feel more connected. In September, I started browsing the internet to find what people here do apart from work and tourism. My eye noticed the Toastmasters ad, and

Just Another Ribbon?

Did you notice something new on our flag? Yes, that nice blue thing with yellow writing. We have a new ribbon! This means that our former presidents Roxi Cârceag and Cristian Nechifor, along with their boards and club members, did a great job in the 2012-2013 Distinguished Club Program. By achieving our goals, Toastmasters International recognized us through this ribbon to be a Select Distinguished Club. What are our club objectives for 2013-2014? We want to be a President’s Distinguished Club. That means even a bit
