Talk Up Toastmasters!

Toastmasters love to talk. It might be the main reason most of us joined the club. However, many of us came the first time because a friend invited us to a meeting. Now it’s up to us to give others the same opportunity to learn and grow. From February 1 to March 31, Toastmasters International is running a membership contest called Talk Up Toastmasters! If we add five new, dual, or reinstated members to our roster by March 31, we will receive a ribbon to display

Toastmasters Movie Night

On Sunday, January 20, we had our first Toastmasters movie night at my apartment! We watched The Wizard of Oz, a classic made in 1939 and nominated for six Academy Awards. It won Best Original Song for Over the Rainbow. When I was in grade school, they used to have a special showing of the movie on TV once a year. It was a pot-luck evening, so we had plenty of goodies from everyone’s kitchen to munch on. I had a variety of hot and cold drinks

Come, See, Speak!

We are organizing our annual event of Come, See, Speak! This is a great chance to speak in front of a larger audience. Last year we had around 50 attendees! It’s also a great opportunity to prepare for the upcoming contests in Brasov, Chisinau, and Timisoara. Of course, your CC, ACB, or CL manual will be filled-in according to your involvement in the event! Here is a preview of the evening: When: Tuesday, February 19, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Where: Prefectura, Room 120 Participants: 50

Let’s Go to Chişinău!

Toastmasters members from Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine will soon be taking part in the first International Conference of 2013. In April, two clubs from Chişinău, Top Toastmasters Club and English Speaking Club, are organizing their first big event. Even though they claim to be young clubs with little experience, their initiative to organize an international contest is appreciated and should be marked in red on your calendar. A rough draft of the event agenda looks like this: 4 workshops conducted by people from the 3 countries involved

Difficult Choices

Events, events, events! Events everywhere…but which one to pick? Many Toastmasters’ local and international events have been announced for this year. Just take a look at the list on the right side of this page! Which one should you choose? Here’s my quick answer: the one that suits you most considering your level, time, and money. Now here’s my real answer: If you can attend all of them, do it! A contest or an event gives you the chance to practice in front of an entirely new

Take a Role in the TM Meetings!

Being a TM member is challenging, especially when you take a leadership role or you are a speaker. Even if you are selected for an impromptu speech at Table Topics, it can be stressful. Since I became a member, I have purposefully always tried to be a part of the meeting. I have carefully chosen my roles from the CL/CC manual. This is how I have learnt the most and developed my skills. The results are coming now without thinking, and they are usually sweet! Moreover, the TM experience has made me think about how I can improve

First Impression – Miruna Szilvasy

Becoming a Toastmasters member was the best thing I did in December 2012. I joined because I love to speak, listen, and feel the English language. Five years ago, I lived in the UK for one year. Since then, I’ve missed speaking and thinking directly in English, and now I have the chance. I’ve also met some great people at the Toastmasters’ meetings. Please meet me on: linkedin.com/in/mirunas! by Miruna SZILVASY

First Impression – Ruxandra Oprica

I’ve known about Toastmasters ever since it started in Brasov in 2010. I heard that the meetings were held at the Aro Palace Hotel and thought it must be one of those exclusive clubs – definitely of no use to me! A few months ago I met Roxi Cârceag at a public event and had the chance to ask her  some straight forward questions. I learned that Toastmasters is focused on personal development, especially on public speaking and leadership skills. I thought, “Hmmm, this could help me with the work I’m
